A collaboration with German car manufacturer Volkswagen was announced by Bridgestone which brings its lightweight tyre technology to be used on the all new Volkswagen ID.3 electric vehicle (EV).
The environmental friendly ENLITEN technology enables the tyre to have lots of low rolling resistance hence it is being applied on for the first time on Turanza Eco tyres specially designed for the Volkswagen ID.3. The manufacturer claims that it required less materials to manufacture this tyre.
The Focus of the company is to benefit everyday drivers who use Electric vehicles. The ID.3 is Volkswagen's first fully electric vehicle which is said to launched in India in the near future.

During the development of the ID.3, Volkswagen was curious about a tyre fitment that promised superb performance both in wet and dry weather conditions but more importantly low rolling resistance and durability. The reason behind volkswagen opting for Bridgestone's Tyres is to get better economy in terms of battery operating range.
The TURANZA tyre from BRIDGESTONE:
Bridgestone's response was a "yes"when Volkswagen was seeking best suitable tyres for their ID.3. All the requirements with a custom developed tyre was promised and hence came up with the Turanza Tyre that had ENLITEN technology. The Turanza tyre is a new innovative lightweight tyre which has used minimal materials in construction, making it lightweight. The tyres have low rolling resistance that benefits the environment and is perfect for sustainability.
ENLITEN technology tyres shows rolling resistance to be 30 percent lower than that of a premium standard summer tyre. The tyre with low rolling resistance contributes in the reduction of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in a combusting engine equipped vehicle. So basically in an electric vehicle, the usage of the Turanza tyres significantly extends the battery life.
In Addition to this, the ENLITEN technology enables fuel/battery conservation by being reduced in weight up to 20 percent. This is a result of of reduction of weight by using 2Kg fewer raw materials in constructing the tyres which is also an environmental benefit.
In addition to the ENLITEN technology, the new mixing process and use of the technology in reduction of compound wear has also resulted in better traction or grip. The combination of the technology and the 3D pattern maximizes wet and dry weather performance which ultimately improves the handling and comfort of the ride.
