Tyrata Inc. and Durham City Transport Company GoDurham conducted a comprehensive study to determine the cost savings and benefits of employing automated tyre tread monitoring to manage tyre maintenance for GoDurham's 60-bus public transit fleet. The use of automated tyre tread monitoring resulted in a 12 percent increase in efficiency, which immediately translates to fewer tyres being purchased.
Tyrata's IntelliTread Drive-Over System (DOS) was able to completely eliminate manual tyre measurements while also prolonging the life of the tyres in the study. Even though all tyres were kept well above the US Department of Transportation's mandated tyre tread safety limits, tyre tread utilisation was increased from 9.9 mm to 11.2 mm. GoDurham and Tyrata also decreased tyre requirements by 100 tyres per year and removed the cost of manual inspection, resulting in an estimated annual net savings of $60,000 for their 60-bus fleet using DOS- tyre tread monitoring system.

Every time a car goes over Tyrata's Drive-Over System (DOS), which looks like a speed hump, it collects the tyre tread depth. GoDurham was able to increase the life of the fleet's tyres by an average of 1.3mm of tread wear while adhering to strict tread depth standards to ensure passenger safety by using the DOS.
