Toyota Dominates Rally Finland On Pirelli Scorpion KX Soft Compound

This weekend, the Pirelli Scorpion KX soft compound tyre was exclusively utilised for Rally Finland, which was won by Toyota driver Elfyn Evans. The Welshman won following a close battle with Hyundai's Ott Tanak and Craig Breen, who finished second and third, respectively, while Esapekka Lappi, driving a privately-run Toyota Yaris WRC, was the one of the top Finn to bring home fourth.

Rally Finland was run in different conditions than its normal summer date, with the performance of Pirelli Scorpion KX tyres being a key element in finding grip on the damp stages while also demonstrating strength and reliability over the famous jumps. Because of the low wear, tyre strategy was not used this time, but Finland still proved to be one of the quickest rallies in the world: Evan's winning average speed was 125.5kph, and he also set the fastest average speed on a single-stage - 133kph on SS18 (Laukaa).

The Winning tyre for Pirelli:

The Pirelli soft compound Scorpion KX was the only tyre used from start to finish in the WRC1 class, while the WRC2 competitors utilised the Scorpion K6A. Throughout the 19 stages, the hard compound KX was only seen once: when Evans used it as a spare tyre for the final four stages. Instead, the soft tyre was continually favoured by the damp roads and low temperatures (which did not surpass 11 degrees, diving as low as five degrees on Sunday morning) that displayed good grip and great tolerance to the harsh forces of Rally Finland. The big jumps on the Power Stage, Ruuhimaki, underlined this as well, with M-Adrien Sport's Fourmaux taking the greatest leap at 68 metres.

Terenzio Testoni, Pirelli rally activity manager says that "The Pirelli Scorpion KX Soft has proved to be a versatile tyre with a wide working range, reliable in both hot and cold conditions, as well as in fast and slow conditions, and on abrasive surfaces together with smoother roads. On top of that, the construction was strong enough to cope with all the jumps that are a hallmark of Rally Finland. This tyre was developed for possible use in Great Britain as well, which is likely to showcase cool conditions not dissimilar to those seen in Finland this weekend. Congratulations to Elfyn Evans, who was fast from start to finish and quickly worked out how to get the best possible grip from his tyres. For the next rally in Spain, the new P Zero RA HA will make its debut: our new hard compound for asphalt, which is even stronger than its predecessor."
