Pirelli is the first manufacturer in the world to develop a set of FSC-certified tyre for the BMW X5 xDrive45e Plug-in Hybrid. These tyres are made of FSC-certified natural rubber and rayon, and they mark a new horizon of tyre manufacturing.
PIRELLI P ZERO TYRE WITH FSC CERTIFICATION
FSC forest management certification ensures that plantations are maintained in a manner that protects ecological diversity and improves the life of local residents and workers while maintaining economic viability. From the plantations to the tyre maker, the dynamic FSC chain of custody certification process verifies that FSC-certified rubber has been detected and segregated from non-certified content as it moves through the supply chain.
The Pirelli P Zero tyre, the world's first FSC-certified tyre, will be available in 275/35 R22 for the front and 315/30 R22 for the back on the BMW X5 xDrive45e Plug-in-Hybrid.
The second generation of the BMW X5 with electrified drive combines a model-specific 3.0-litre in-line 6-cylinder petrol engine featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology with the fourth generation of BMW eDrive technology. The plug-in hybrid drive has a system output of 290 kW/394 hp, a maximum system torque of 600 Nm, and an electric range of 77-88 kilometres (WLTP).
The BMW Group completed a full-cycle CO2 certification for the BMW X5 xDrive45e, from raw material sourcing to supply chain management, packaging, and use process recycling.

Pirelli designed this P ZERO using its "right match" approach, satisfying the performance requirements of the German manufacturer for this common model while also adding to the hybrid vehicle's "green" concept. The new tyre will be manufactured solely at Pirelli's Rome, Georgia factory in the United States, and is planned to directly achieve environmental protection as well as low rolling resistance (scoring "A" on the European tyre label), which decreases fuel consumption and thereby toxic emissions. Furthermore, noise levels are smaller, which helps the atmosphere even on.
THE SUSTAINABLE NATURAL RUBBER SUPPLY CHAIN
The FSC certification of natural rubber sourced from approved plantations for the upcoming P ZERO tyre for BMW's X5 Plug-in Hybrid is the next move in Pirelli's long-term commitment to sustainable natural rubber supply chain management. This is accomplished by a set of programmes focused on training and exchanging best practises in the material's origin countries, in accordance with the Pirelli Sustainable Natural Rubber Policy, which was released in 2017.
