Pirelli Relies On New Front Solutions For The Assen Round Of WSBK

Pirelli to provide innovative development solutions and a wide selection of standard tyres to the WSBK, which returns to ‘The Cathedral of Speed.'

The MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship heads to the Netherlands for round five at the iconic TT Circuit Assen, following the event at Donington earlier this month. The TT Circuit Assen is one of the most demanding tracks in the championship, and it's known as "The Cathedral of Speed" because of the high average speed riders can achieve. The 4,542-meter circuit, which was completed in 1925, features 11 right-handers and six left turns.

Despite not being overly pressured from a thermal standpoint, Pirelli says that the tyres must nevertheless be able to provide the rider with a high level of precision and directional stability. The fascination of Assen is found in its series of lengthy, constant-speed curves, slow U-shaped turns with braking and abrupt acceleration, quick chicanes, and long turns with powerful acceleration coming out of them, all while the bike remains leaning over. The Assen round has traditionally been held in the spring, with temperatures as low as four degrees in 2019, but this year's races will be conducted in the summer, with temperatures that could be substantially higher than prior years.

The solutions for the WSBK and WorldSSP classes by Pirelli:

Pirelli arrives in Assen with 4884 tyres and Riders in the WSBK class can choose from four front and four rear slick options. The medium compound SC2 and the soft compound SC1 are the front alternatives from the standard range. There are also two development options: the first is the development SC1 in A0721 specification, which makes its debut in Assen and has a softer compound than the standard tyre, and the second is the development SC1 in A0508 specification, which the riders were able to appreciate at the Misano round.

In terms of rear choices, Pirelli offers three standard options and one development option to riders. As a result, the riders will have access to normal tyres in super-soft SCX compound, soft SC0 compound, and medium SC1 compound. In addition to these possibilities, the development solution SCX in A0557 standard will be back: it debuted with tremendous success at the Misano event and was picked for Race 2 by all of the riders on the starting grid.

Pirelli offers cyclists the option of rain tyres in the event of inclement weather. Teams can pick between the regular rain solution and the development option in the A0593 specification, which was demonstrated at the previous race in Donington and was used by several riders. In the event of poor weather, the decision will be between the normal rain solution and the development solution in X1251 specification, which includes a novel compound designed to provide better grip in wet circumstances even at low temperatures.

Riders in the WorldSSP category will have a choice of six slick options, three front and three rear. In addition to the traditional SC1 and SC2 solutions, the new development solution in soft compound A0460 will be available for the front, which with a redesigned structure should increase feedback at maximum lean angle. Riders can select the ultra soft SCX, soft SC0, or medium SC1 from the standard tyre range for the rear.
