Lucid Air Is The First Car To Use New Pirelli HL Tyre

Pirelli introduces its first high load index HL tyre: a new type of tyre designed specifically for electric and hybrid automobiles like the Lucid Air. The tyre is ideal for heavier vehicles, such as electric cars, because it was designed to sustain the weight of new vehicles loaded with batteries. It's made to have minimal rolling resistance and a high level of comfort while driving.

The HL (high load) designation on the sidewall indicates the tyre's capabilities, and it can support 20 percent more weight than a regular tyre and 6-9 percent more weight than an extra load XL tyre of the same size.

LUCID AIR WITH THE P ZERO HL FEATURING ELECT AND PNCS TECHNOLOGY

The Lucid Air will be the first vehicle to employ Pirelli's revolutionary HL tyres. This model's Pirelli P ZERO will be available in the following sizes: HL 245/35R21 99 Y XL on the front axle and HL 265/35R21 103 Y XL on the rear axle, built specifically for the new premium electric automobile that will be constructed and sold in the United States of America later this year. The P ZERO tyres for the Lucid Air were created in collaboration with the car manufacturer, in accordance with Pirelli's "Perfect Fit" approach, to fully meet the required performance standards. These tyres will be labelled ‘LM1' on the sidewalls to identify the special design for the American manufacturer.

Pierangelo Misani, Pirelli's Senior Vice President of R&D and Cyber, said: “The search for cutting-edge technical solutions has always been at the very heart of Pirelli's business. The attention we devote to all new forms of sustainable mobility now leads us to technology that is capable of anticipating the future demands of car manufacturers for their new electric and hybrid vehicles, which increasingly require specialised performance from tyres.”

“Lucid Air represents a technological breakthrough in terms of efficiency and performance. The new Pirelli HL tyres are integral to achieving such benchmarks,” said Eric Bach, SVP of Product and Chief Engineer at Lucid Motors.

Pirelli Elect and PNCS technology will also be used in these custom P ZEROs. Pirelli Elect has a low rolling resistance to extend range, minimal rolling noise to improve comfort, and a compound engineered for grip to respond to the electric transmission's instant torque demands, as well as a structure capable of sustaining the battery pack's weight. PNCS technology, which comprises a specific sound-absorbing material inserted within the tyre, helps deaden air vibrations that would otherwise be conveyed to the inside of the car, increasing interior comfort even more. This system's advantages can be felt both inside and outside the vehicle.
