Hankook Tire, a global leader in the tyre industry, introduced the Winter i.cept RS3 in Korea to complement its premium winter tyre lineup. The revised tread pattern will be introduced to the European market next year, followed by other markets.
Hankook Winter i.cept RS3 is a tyre developed to provide everyday safety in the winter. It provides a motorist with dependable handling in all road conditions, including snow, ice, and wet and dry roads. Small slots sculpted into the edge of the main groove, in particular, improve the contact surface of the tyre with the ground, providing better grip even while cornering on snow-covered curves.
An inverted V-shaped tread pattern carved in the opposite direction of the main groove angle supports stable braking in snowy conditions. When compared to the previous 2D kerfs, the corrugated 3D kerfs improve braking performance on snowy roads by 4%. The sawtooth-shaped 3D sipes, which minimise block motions, also play a role.

Furthermore, the Winter i.cept RS3 used a variety of drainage technologies to maintain a high level of driving stability even in wet weather. Aquaplaning is reduced by the rapid drainage of water through the two drainage grooves, which are a thin groove in the shape of a water pipe and a large V-shaped groove. Meanwhile, a newly implemented W-shaped design not only quickly disperses water but also firmly clamps the block surface with its slanted bars. This enables for responsive handling in the rain and at low temperatures during the winter.

In addition to the tread design, the tire used high-grip silica, a natural compound, to contribute to excellent braking performance particularly on wet or slush-covered roads. The tread life has been improved by 10 percent compared to the previous model upon improving braking performance on the wet surface.
"We are committed to offering tyre products that ensure driver's safety on the road based on our continued investment in R&D and the latest technologies," says Sooil Lee, President and CEO of Hankook Tire & Technology. "We are confident that this new tyre tread upgraded from our already highly praised winter tire will meet our customers' high expectations."
