Why Is Lego A Guinness World Record Holder? Find Out

What does come it your mind when we ask which is the largest tyre manufacturer in the world? Well, some of you might might think about stating tyre manufacturers like Bridgestone, Goodyear etc. but we say it is none of these and the answer which we are about to state might shock you.

This leading tyre manufacturer produces around 70 percent more than its close rivals and is a brand which has been around for more than 90 years with an annual sale of $2.1 billion, the manufacturer stands iconic in the eyes of its customers around the globe.

You might be surprised after hearing that its actually not a conventional vehicle tyre manufacturer and for a fact, its a toy- tyre maker! Its none other than the toy manufacturer Lego.

Lego has mentioned that the brand makes whooping 700 million tyres per year which is nowhere close to what the tyre manufacturing companies produce.

The brand came into existence in the year 1932 and was established in Denmark. It was made by a carpenter called Ole Kirk Christiansen. The idea of legos came from using interlocking bricks. Initially he made small toys after he was one among the large section in the society who lost jobs due to the great depression.

He made toys with the left-over wood and it was not until 1947 that the manufacturer decided to use plastic. Lego was a smaller version of the interlocking wooden blocks of that era.

Initially, the design involved construction of miniature houses, doors, walls and simpler items. In the later period, blocks where made in different sizes which made it easier for children to build houses or create something out of their imagination.

In the year 2012, Lego celebrated their 50th anniversary of its first ever wheel to be produced. They were awarded officially the Guinness World Record for being the largest tyre manufacturer in the world. An interesting fact about Lego is that their factories produced tyres 365 days throughout 24 hours a day so that they can keep up with the demand all over the globe.

At present, almost 50 percent of Lego consists of wheels. Earlier they manufactured vehicles which consisted of building bricks as the tyres which was not as practical as they thought it to be. Today, there is a wide variety of Lego vehicles which is also in demand as it is a collectors item.

It was mind-blowing when we found out that Legos manufactured in the 1950s are also compatible with the more modern bricks which allows people to build there own ideas through the world of imagination.
