SRI Creates Groundbreaking New Tyre Sensing Technology

Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. (SRI), the parent company of Sumitomo Rubber North America, says that it has developed a "groundbreaking new technology" for detecting tyre wear levels.

"The latest breakthrough represents the next evolution of our proprietary Sensing Core Tyre Sensing Technology, adding tyre wear to the list of conditions that this innovative technology can detect - a list that already includes tyre pressure, tyre load and road conditions," say SRI officials.

SRI proprietary Sensing Core Tyre Sensing Technology "is able to detect various conditions related to tyres and the road - all thanks to our extensive know-how related to the dynamic behavior of tyres, cultivated over many years of developing high-performance tyres, as well as specialized digital filtering technology that can analyze and interpret wheel speed signals, which are transmitted as tyres rotate."

The technology uses tyres as its sensors, according to SRI officials. "It requires no additional tyre installation and is completely maintenance-free. Further, by sharing wheel speed signal data and other pertinent information over the cloud, Sensing Core also allows for cloud-based detection of potential issues at the regional level."
