Mahindra Bolero With 20 Inch Alloys: Att Look [Video]

If you're a Bolero owner with an alloy fetish, you're really in for a treat today. This article is dedicated to all the Bolero owners out there who have for long wished to have the upsized wheels that a Scorpio or an Endeavour would boast of. Velocity tyres in Ludhiana have done the unthinkable and given a Mahindra Bolero owner 20 inches of nirvana. That's right, the shop installed 20 inch alloy wheels on a Mahindra Bolero, how crazy is that?

As we all know, the stock rim size for the bolero is 15 inches and for most owners out there, the maximum upsize you'll witness is a plus two upsize to about 17 inches. A 20 inch upsize is five inches more than the stock rim size and doesn't seem plausible at all. So how did they do it? The secret my friend lies in the hub.

You see Velocity was able to install 20 inch alloys by using hub converters in the Bolero. These converters, as the owner says are manufactured using CNC ( computer numerical control ) and are useful for two things. First, these hub converters solve any compatibility issues that you might face with different types of alloys and second, they also tone down any vibrations that might arise due to upsizing.

As you can see in the video at 11:44, there are two custom made converter hubs that the owner showcases for Boleros: a black one which he says are preferred for the latest Boleros manufactured post 2018 and another silver one for older Boleros which had a bigger hub axle.

Also, depending on the alloy, you can use different hubs as some alloys are compatible with one hub while other alloys are compatible with another.

Coming to how these alloys will effect the ride quality and suspension in the long run, 20 inches is definitely not ideal if you want to go off road and be rough with your car. The owner will definitely have to be very gentle with his Bolero post the 20 inch installation. I guess that's the price you pay for making it look like a G-Wagon.

Another thing that caught our attention was the owner offering side flaps/fenders ( 4000-5000 Rs) as an add on to cover the tyres, something similar to what you see on a Jeep Wrangler. Can be pretty useful as you can see how much the upsized tyres protrude out of the car.

Noise is another problem that comes with upsizing tyres and to counter that the customer went with a high silica based tyre from Sonar which you can see in the video being referred to as the "zero noise tyre" by the owner.

Do watch the video and tell us which one out of the three did you like the best. The 17inch, 18 inch or the 20 inch?
