Here's Why Apple's $700 Mac Pro Wheels Don't Make Sense

  • $700 Dollars = 52,000 Rupees (At current exchange rate)

Apple released a brand new set of (overpriced) accessories for its Mac Pro computers and one of them was the "Mac Pro Wheels Kit." This kit includes four little wheels which, as you might have heard already, cost a whopping $700. Now, don't get us wrong, we love the idea of wheels (pun intended). The Mac Pro is definitely heavy and bulky and it can be difficult to move it around. A pair of wheels makes perfect sense. But $700 for some rubber and stainless steel? That's where it becomes a joke.

Mac Pro Wheels

The kit features four stainless steel and rubber wheels, which Apple says and I quote "will make it easy to move your Mac Pro around, whether sliding it out from under your desk or across your studio."

Just to give you some perspective, four brand new Michelin Primacy Tour All-Season tyres cost around $500 in the United States. That's right, full-sized premium passenger tyres (real wheels) would cost you $200 less than the Mac Pro Wheels Kit. In fact, here's what you can get from an apple store in $699 right now:

You could get the entry-level iPhone 11 at $699, or, if you can't do without accessories, you could go for the new iPhone SE. Grab the 64 GB model for $399. Add a silicon case ($35), a Mophie charging pad ($39), and a pair of AirPods with the wireless charging case ($199), and your bill still stands at $672.

Or how about a new iPad ($329), an Apple Pencil ($99), and a Smart Keyboard cover ($159) for just $587, leaving you with over $120 of cash.

If you think the price is the funniest part, wait till you hear this. Apple's website goes on to say that a 1/4-inch to 4 mm hex bit is included, but "additional tools are necessary." That's right, $700 wheels and you my friend get to figure out how to put them on! Oh, come on, what's the fun in having all the tools you need? We all dreamed of being Bob the Builder didn't we?

Bob the Builder

Hey Apple? Would you make these in rose gold too? I'm really looking forward to buying the 2021 wheels kit pro max for just $1000!

Sigh*

Apple has been infamous for its overpriced accessories but the wheels just take it to a whole new level. There's nothing wrong with being a premium brand but Apple ought to remember that there is a difference between being premium and rediculous. Moves like this simply make the company a laughing stock.

The company's wheels have been roasted across all social media platforms leaving many technology reviewers speechless. And I mean literally speechless. Don't believe me? Here's unbox therapy's Lew trying his best to come to terms with the world he is living in.

Interestingly, the wheels have already been available as $100 add ons with the Mac Pro which basically means that if you buy the wheels at the time of purchasing the Mac Pro, you can get all four of them for a much lesser price of $400.

*You're too kind Apple. Too kind*

The company however was aware that this absolute marvel of technology with stainless steel and rubber was worth much more, which is why, Apple decided that their revolutionary wheels would now also be available as a separate purchase and receive a $300 bump.

Fun fact, these little wheels don't even come with locks or brakes that can stop your Mac Pro from wandering off into oblivion.

We admit that Apple has built some wonderful technology and still continues to do so. Take the Mac Pro for example. Its an extremely powerful machine that ranks amongst the best computers in the world for video-editing applications, 3D programs & graphic design. But you have to admit that Apple's gone a little overboard with its over the top pricing strategy for its accessories.

The Mac Pro starts at $5,999 (Rs 4,59,315 approximately) in the United States and goes up to $51,399 (Rs 39,34,721 approximately) as you ramp up the specifications. Indians need not fret as the new Wheels Kit is yet to be launched in India so you don’t have to worry about its hefty price tag. As far as the Mac Pro is concerned, it starts at Rs 4,99,999 in India with the price going up with the specifications.
