Hankook Tire, the world's largest tyre manufacturer, is fitting premium tyres to the BMW X3 M and X4 M, a first for BMW M GmbH vehicles. The brand new Hankook Ventus S1 evo Z was developed specifically for the UUHP (Ultra-Ultra-High-Performance) class for use on especially sporty high-performance automobiles. The Hankook Ventus S1 evo Z is available in 255/40 ZR21 102Y tyres on the front axle and 265/40 ZR21 105Y tyres on the rear axle for both BMW M GmbH models and has been customised to BMW M GmbH's unique requirements.
A high level of grip and very precise lateral guidance for optimum handling behaviour, even under very sporty conditions, were decisive criteria during the approval process, which for all M models traditionally includes an extensive performance test on the legendary Nordschleife bend at the Nürburgring.
Hankook established the Ultra-Ultra-High-Performance tyre category this year with the release of the Ventus S1 evo Z on the market. BMW M GmbH cars, specifically the X3 M and X4 M variants, will use the new tread as a first for the premium tyre maker. The Hankook Ventus S1 evo Z's attributes highlight the M models' motorsport DNA. This is manifested in a high level of kinetics, agility, and precision. The Competition variants have a maximum power of 510 hp and 650 Nm of torque, and both models sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.
The mixed tyres used here in sizes 255/40 ZR21 102Y on the front axle and 265/40 ZR21 105Y on the rear axle were extensively tested at maximum speed on the famed Nordschleife bend at the Nürburgring, in addition to the release tests that are standard in the industry. This ensures that the tyre construction is strong and capable of meeting the M models' needs at all times.

The Ventus S1 evo Z has an aramid composite material in a double-layer carcass for just this demanding vehicle category, especially when it comes to tyres. This prevents deformations produced by heat build-up after prolonged use. Otherwise, deformations would result in an unwelcome increase in rolling circumference and less precise handling at high speeds. Aramid fibres are exceptionally heat resistant and have a high strength-to-weight ratio. They also have strong damping qualities and are light in weight.
High-strength steels in the belt and bead areas provide the new Hankook tread pattern added stability, which, when combined with the strengthened sidewall, ensures straight-line stability and steering precision, as well as sporty, dynamic handling.
The new Hankook Ventus S1 evo Z is now offered as original equipment by leading premium manufacturers in 15 sizes ranging from 19 to 21 inches, with tread widths ranging from 225 to 315 mm and cross-sections ranging from Series 30 to 45. Additional sizes will be added throughout the year, with a concentration on the high-end range.
