Hankook Tire, a global leader in tyre manufacturing, has updated its sustainable natural rubber policy to align with the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR) policy framework, further promoting sustainability across its value chain for natural rubber, a primary raw material for tyres.
Hankook Tire created a sustainable natural rubber policy in 2018 and is a member of GPSNR, an international membership-driven organisation dedicated to defining natural rubber value chain sustainability. Each party in the natural rubber value chain, including producers, processors, traders, and manufacturers, are required to comply with the policy not only with the laws and regulations of the countries in which they operate, but also with Hankook Tire's updated requirements in areas such as human rights, environmental protection, and management.
According to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, human rights guidelines include respecting indigenous peoples' customary, traditional, and communal land tenure rights. Hankook Tire also operates a Grievance Mechanism that adheres to the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights' efficacy criteria.

Preventing deforestation, preventing water pollution caused by the use of chemicals, preventing resource depletion, and prohibiting the establishment or procurement of peatland farming of natural rubber are all regulated in terms of environmental protection. Hankook Tire is dedicated to the restoration of natural forests and ecosystems, as well as the conservation of endangered species and wildlife, as well as the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, efforts should be made to improve the transparency of the complicated natural rubber value chain, which spans producers to end consumers.
Meanwhile, Hankook Tire intends to improve its material efficiency in order to discover the best agricultural practices, as well as encourage smallholders to get relevant training. Through incentives, training, and purchasing oversight, the corporation will actively assist partners in implementing the policy. Hankook Tire will also conduct assessments of its partners at least once every two years to assess their compliance with the programme.
