DIY Method To Remove Tar And Gravel From Tyres

Tyres are an important part of your vehicle. Tyres help you keep your car stable and assists in braking. The tyres provide traction which helps you slow down your vehicle. While driving on wet surfaces the tread of your vehicle's tyres need to be clean from tar and other materials to help you get traction and maximum performance.

So here are some simple DIY steps that you could follow to remove tar and gravel that caught on to the tyres while you drove over freshly paved roads.

Step 1 :

Try using plastic knife or a screwdriver to scrape off the tar from the surface of the tyres. The reason to make use of a plastic knife is to prevent a puncture and avoid damaging the tyres. If in case you do not have a plastic knife, then use a screwdriver to remove the tar but be careful not to pierce the tyres.

Step 2 :

After removing the tar partially or making the tar loose, Use a scrubber and some detergent water to scrub it off the tyres. Keep scrubbing till most of the tar residue will come off. It is indeed a task in which you need to apply some elbow grease but there is no other way to remove them.

Step 3:

The next step involves using kerosene to remove the tar and gravel. After scrubbing, most of the tar and gravel would have become loose by now and will be easy to remove. Kerosene has as an anti- sticking property which will help you remove the tar or at least most of it.

Step 4:

If the tar has not yet worn off from the scrubbing and usage of kerosene, then get tar removal products. Be careful while using tar removal products because it could cause a reaction on the tyres and result in the tyres being not usable. Each product has certain limit on the quantity to be used so read the manual carefully.

Note: It is recommended to use face mask and rubber gloves for safety.

Step 5:

Make sure to wash the tyres and wheels to remove the residue left behind by the tar removal products. scrub and wash the tyres with detergent water and make sure that there is no chemical residue left behind.

By following the steps given above, the tar and gravel stuck to your vehicle's tyres will be removed completely. Be patient because it is going to be a hard and time consuming process.
