The ConExpo 2020 is up and running in full swing and lot of tyre companies are using the opportunity to showcase their flagship OTR tyres and digital solutions for companies.
Continental is one of the tyre companies present at the ConExpo 2020 and is showcasing its digital tyre monitoring solutions for fleets. The two digital solutions that the company is showcasing are the ContiConnect Yard and the ContiPressure Check. These solutions according to Continental can “help fleets reduce downtime, improve safety and fuel efficiency, and minimize labor and maintenance costs associated with tyre inspections.” Lets delve into some of the details regarding these solutions.
ContiConnect Yard: The system is perfect for fleets wherein the vehicles return to the yard or a parking lot daily. Continental sets up a yard reader station that collects data from all the tyre sensors present in a radius of approx 65 feet and acts as a Connecting component between the tyre sensor and Continental´s backend -- 'The Webportal.' The yard reader sends the data to the webportal where it is then analyzed and interpreted.
“ContiConnect is an accessible solution for domiciled fleets, such as those used in construction and regional hauling,” Carolina Wagner, Continental’s director of marketing for commercial vehicle tyres in the Americas region, said.
The Web portal allows real-time monitoring of the entire fleet's tyre performance and puts control into the hands of the fleet managers. Different views as well as filter functions allow detailed analyses and allows the maintenance manager to confirm proper tyre pressure before vehicles leave the fleet yard, and as soon as they return. It’s a simple way to maintain control of your tyre program.

ContiPressureCheck: The ContiPressure system is a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) that helps in monitoring a single vehicle's tyres in real-time. The system uses sensors installed on the wheel rims of the tyre's on the trucks/buses, alerting the driver to any tyre pressure or temperature issues via an in-vehicle display. The system is ideal for circumstances wherein commercial vehicles are on the road for long periods of time and can be used by both fleets or owner operators.
Continental also suggested that components of both the systems can be combined if needed, to allow fleets to monitor vehicles, both on road as well in the yard. So for example, A driver can use the ContiPressureCheck to keep track of his tyre pressure and temperature when on the road while the ContiConnect Yard will allow the fleet manager to see the data in the web portal once the trucks return to the fleet terminal.
For OTR tyres, the embedded sensors can also be used in a new service concept, the ContiLogger Live. ContiLogger Live uses a telematic device with integrated sensors to measure speed, distance, location, lateral forces, road grade, production activity, tyre pressure and tyre temperature. The system issues warnings for critical conditions like: long idling time, high TMPH (ton miles per hour), low efficiency cycle pattern, low inflation pressure and high tyre temperature. ContiLogger Live is designed to operate independently, being able to monitor thousands of vehicles, the company says.
