Conti EcoPlus Tyre Range Scores Highly with Lower Rolling Resistance

Continental's latest upgrades to its Conti EcoPlus tyre family provide fleet operators with an optimised commercial vehicle tyre with less rolling resistance and improved fuel efficiency. Long-distance transport tyres perform wonderfully, with a new rubber formula reducing rolling resistance even more. As a result, the premium tyres help to reduce fleet costs and CO2 emissions without sacrificing mileage or durability. Continental tyre engineers worked on a new compound that is suited for long-distance travel, as well as an upgraded production method that balances rolling resistance and mileage.

According to Continental, from July, the 315/70 22,5 Conti EcoPlus HS3+ and Conti EcoPlus HD3+ for the steer and drive axles will be made available. From October onwards, new dimensions will be added. In the coming year, the Conti EcoPlus HT3+ trailer axle tyre will be released.

Conti EcoPlus HS3+ and Conti EcoPlus HD3+: Robust performers in long-distance use

The rolling resistance of the Conti EcoPlus HS3+ steer axle tyre for long-distance transport has been lowered by up to 7% compared to its predecessor. A novel tread and sidewall compound, as well as an enhanced base compound, were used to achieve this. This combination also assures a high level of fuel economy.

“With the product line update, we have further improved the durability, robustness and mileage of this tire line,” explains Hinnerk Kaiser, head of tire development bus and truck tires at Continental.

The drive axle Conti EcoPlus HD3+ impresses with a rolling resistance reduction of up to 12% over its predecessor. This remarkable improvement is aided by a cutting-edge tread and sidewall compound. Furthermore, a proprietary technique lowers deformation in the tire's sidewall and bead area, lowering rolling resistance even further.

Low rolling resistance reduces environmental impact:

Fuel-efficient commercial vehicles benefit both fleet budgets and the environment. However, the rolling resistance of a tyre can influence fuel consumption by up to 30%, making it an important factor for tyre designers to consider. Furthermore, one of the characteristics utilised by the VECTO modelling programme to determine a truck's fuel efficiency is rolling resistance. For the haulage industry, VECTO and the EU Emissions Regulation remain critical. Of course, the sector has been tasked with considerably lowering CO2 emissions by 2030. Continental has developed a CO2 and fuel consumption calculator based on the VECTO simulation tool to increase transparency in the tyre choosing process. This enables fleet owners to assess the amount of pollution and fuel consumption they may save by selecting the proper Continental tyres. The connection of a tire's mission profile, structure, pressure level, and rolling resistance determines how much fuel a fleet uses and how much can be saved.
