Completely Redesigned Place Des Carmes At Michelin Grabs Eyeballs

Florent Menegaux, Chair of the Michelin Group, and Olivier Bianchi, Mayor of Clermont-Ferrand and Chair of Clermont Auvergne Métropole, along with elected officials and project stakeholders, are inaugurating a new reception building and a completely redesigned Place des Carmes at the Michelin head office in Clermont-Ferrand today.

The new Michelin Place des Carmes and reception building are designed and used in an environmentally efficient and creative manner. It demonstrates the Group's desire to confront the challenges of the twenty-first century while remaining true to its history. It was developed by a group that included architects and landscapers from the businesses Construire, Encore Heureux, and BASE, with Léon Grosse in charge of project management. Local enterprises made up 85 percent of the project's workforce. Regional, organically sourced, or re-used materials were also prioritised.

The new reception facility is more than just an entrance point, with a budget of EUR 20 million. Its new 160-meter frontage unifies the space and resonates with simplicity, all while adopting its own language and personality. It has been substantially glazed and is sheltered by wooden awnings, giving the headquarters a new look.

The structure, which is now available to the public, encourages transparency and proximity. It serves as a link between the city and the company's headquarters. It provides a setting that is suitable for new trades and collaborative working methods in particular. Meeting rooms and modular areas, for example, are available for temporary exhibitions or the children of staff. The public and Michelin employees can utilise the "Equator" cafe, which is a communal and welcoming place, as well as the store and tropical greenhouse.

"For the past 130 years, Michelin has been constantly reinventing itself in order to adapt. The Group is pleased to announce the opening of its new welcome building, which demonstrates the company's deep roots in the region. This structure reflects recent developments at Michelin: a company that is becoming increasingly accessible to its surroundings and focused on the town and its people. This historic manufacturing facility required a new logo that would project Michelin into the future. The risk was well worth it!" said Florent Menegaux, Group Michelin CEO
