Bridgestone Partners With Indy Car Driver Graham Rahal and USTMA

Bridgestone is teaming up with veteran Indy car driver Graham Rahal to highlight the importance of tyres in driving safety during National Tyre Safety Week. Rahal will star in an omnichannel consumer education campaign to encourage everyday drivers to treat their tyres with the same care and precision that Rahal and his team do. Rahal, a six-time winner in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, understands that good tyre care is essential for confidently handling a vehicle when driving at high speeds.

Bridgestone is reminding drivers that monitoring and maintaining their tyres helps keep them safer on the road this summer as part of National Tyre Safety Week (June 28 – July 4). According to a recent Bridgestone survey of U.S. drivers, more than half of Americans expect to travel completely by automobile to their vacation destinations this summer, with almost one-third planning to travel more than 500 miles by car.

“Many people don’t realize that proper tyre care is critical to vehicle performance, whether you’re doing 240 mph on a superspeedway, navigating your daily commute, or taking that big summer road trip with your family,” said Graham Rahal. “As a new father and a racecar driver, safety is my passion. That’s why I’m excited to partner with Bridgestone for National Tyre Safety Week and remind all drivers to take care of their tyres so that they can take care of you.” Graham Rahal told Bridgestone.

Bridgestone reminds drivers that tyre safety is as simple as three words – inflaterotate and evaluate –and a few easy steps:

Inflate – Tyre pressure should be checked monthly, as well as before long trips or when carrying an extra load, using a tyre pressure gauge. Proper tyre inflation pressure helps maximize vehicle performance, avoid irregular tyre wear, and extend tyre life. Drivers can find the correct tyre inflation information for their vehicle in the vehicle owner’s manual or on the tyre information placard located in the driver side door panel.

Rotate – Routine tyre rotation helps prevent uneven tyre wear and maximizes tyre tread life. Tyres should be rotated and balanced according to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations or every 5,000 to 7,000 miles. Visit an authorized Bridgestone dealer or company-owned retail location for support with tyre rotation needs.

Evaluate – Drivers should check tread depth to make sure their tyres have enough tread to grip the road. All it takes to check tread depth is a penny. Turn the penny upside down and dip it into the tread. If Lincoln’s head is fully visible, it’s time for new tyres.

This National Tyre Safety Week, Bridgestone, a leading manufacturer of commercial tyres and mobility solutions, is reminding truck drivers and fleet managers to be proactive in their tyre management and maintenance. The following are some important commercial truck tyre safety tips:

  • Do not exceed a tyre’s maximum recommended speed, which may be lower than the posted speed limits.
  • Select the right tyre for the job, considering the proper tyre size, load-carrying capacity, speed capability, and service type.
  • Set and maintain proper cold inflation pressures.
  • Inspect tyres frequently for damage such as cuts, cracks, bulges, penetrations, and insufficient tread depth.
  • Monitor tyre temperatures using a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), if available.
