Indian tyre manufacturer, Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (BKT) is engaging in an open dialog with their customers to identify their requirements as the automobile and tyre industries are evolving.
Manufacturers of earthmoving or heavy machinery used in agricultural sectors are moving towards electrification and automation of their products. This evolution of agricultural vehicles has led the tyre manufacturers to produce specially designed tyres for the equipment.
Balkrishna Industries Ltd. says that they are in the process of developing specific tyres for the electric vehicles which have specific power and torque characteristics. BKT has been focusing on constructing tyres which have high-strength bead and carcass to withstand the stress and extreme conditions that the high-torque electric vehicles present.

BKT has noted that the design of the flaps of agricultural tyres requires reduction in tread-depth and increased robustness of the flaps for creating high-performance tyres.
The company says it is also working on new compounds to facilitate greater load carrying capabilities and improved operation even at low temperature. BKT's research involves the use of nano materials such as nano clay and nanocellulose. They are also investigating the use of graphene to increase wear and puncture resistance.
BKT is focusing on sensor technology to provide operators with data regarding the condition of tyres which includes pressure and wear levels. They have developed 'SPOTECH system'- A device that can provide real time data and GPS positional information, as well as three-axis g-forces and duty cycle for machinery using Tyres manufactured by BKT.
