Two ‘Go The Distance’ playgrounds, created by Apollo Tyres using worn-out or end-of-life tyres (ELT), just outside Chennai, in the southern part of India, was inaugurated by Chennaiyin FC Coach and Players. These playgrounds for the kids are located in Nattarasanpattu and Pudukkottai villages near Apollo Tyres’ Oragadam facility.

The company has set up 8 ELT ‘Go the Distance’ playgrounds across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and continues to take a lead in mitigating the negative impact to the environment caused by discarded tyres. The playgrounds have created play spaces for children from these villages and provided them with a platform to improve upon their agility and activeness, while sensitising them on the concept of reuse and recycle.
The first two playgrounds which had been created using worn-out or end-of-life tyres (ELT) were inaugurated in 2015 at Senakuppam and Vallakottai villages near Chennai.

Each of these playgrounds had been created using nearly 200 radial tyres, under a pilot project under the company’s umbrella environment initiative, Habitat Apollo. The success of this pilot project encouraged the company to creat more play structures using worn-out tyres, with the latest beneficiaries being the villages of Nattarasanpattu and Pudukkottai.
