Toyo Is Developing an AI Based Tyre Monitoring System

Toyo has responded to the issue of tyre monitoring which has become difficult on the run by developing an Artificial Intelligence (AI) based system which detects the tyre condition in real time. The system also presents data about weather, vehicle duty cycle information and manufacturing with the help of sensors.

Tyre manufacturers are doing there best to create Artificial intelligence to monitor tyres since its difficult to predict situations, tyre pressure and temperatures on the run. The commercial vehicle sector requires the tyre monitoring systems because it is important in keeping there fleet in business.

Usually, tyre condition is measured physically where the operators check different aspects such as the tread depth. Toyo has stated that the new artificial intelligence system will reduce the requirement of physical checks which are time-consuming and they believe that the system will increase the efficiency of collecting vehicle tyre data for the fleet managers.

It is a fact that tyres can be physically checked for wear, damage and even temperature with the help of hardware or equipment such as a thermal imaging gun but these are expensive and usage of these hardware is time-consuming which the fleet owners or the managers are not willing to lose.

Toyo's systems will be integrated with in the existing system which will provide real time data on the run. Toyo's system depends on the data that is provided by the tyre pressure monitoring system equipment (TPMS), which comes as a standard equipment on vehicles these days. The systems onboard vehicles usually shows the specific data about the fitted tyre type and Information on the speed with the help of GPS, acceleration and travel distance which the AI system from Toyo uses to create a combined data.

The company mentions that the data on tyre wear and patterns of ageing vary depending on the service details of a vehicle and thus the data produced by GPS is important for any kind of model that does prediction. The calculation is done by combining the vital data which is used by AI to analyse and predict the condition of all the tyres on different axles.

Toyo stated that the AI system was developed with the help from a number of different partners which includes Nihon Tata Consultancy Services which helped with the hardware and SAS Institute Japan which helped in creating the predictive model. However, the concept is still under the development process and Toyo hopes to put it into service in the near future.
