Hankook Tire & Technology, a global leader in tyre technology, has won the Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2021. In the Mobility and Transportation category, its HPS(Hankook Platform System)-Cell, a solution provided by Hankook during its Design Innovation initiative, was named the ‘Red Dot.'
Hankook Tire has been working on the ‘Design Innovation Project,' a smart city and future mobility research project. The project proposes a vision for future driving and solutions that address today's difficulties through collaborative research. In the future, where augmented automation infrastructure and cutting-edge technologies such as eco-friendly technology, autonomous driving, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are to be adopted, the Design Innovation 2020 project, under the theme ‘Urban Reshaping,' visualised transformation of cities geared by mobility reconfigured as part of living spaces rather than a stand-alone vehicle.
One of the project's outcomes, HPS-Cell, was introduced in November of last year. It's a tyre-based modular platform that Hankook considers to be the core of mobility. HPS-tire Cell is an airless tyre with a unit-cell structure. It employs sensor technology to not only detect tyre treads and road conditions in real-time but also to respond to wear-out hazards and modify tread patterns based on road conditions, all while utilising variable wheels and infrastructure. it has been used in conjunction with the term "Hankook Innovative Performance (H.I.P)," which stands for Hankook's technological advancements.

By winning the Red Dot Award this time in addition to having received the iF Design Award 2021 in the Professional Concept category, the HPS-Cell has taken two out of three most globally renowned design awards, which refer to Red Dot Award, iF Design Award and IDEA.

Each year, the Red Dot Design Award is granted to industry professionals who have created the most creative and best-designed products of the year. The Red Dot Design Award, founded in 1955, is a German award ceremony held by the Design Center Nordrhein-Westfalen to recognise industrial products in three categories: product design, communication design, and design concept. Several of the world's major automobile, technology, fashion, and architecture companies are taking part.
