Goodyear Now Provides Goodyear CheckPoint, Drive-Over-Reader Device

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company mentioned that it would now provide customizable leasing options for Goodyear CheckPoint, a drive-over-reader device that automatically inspects tyre pressure and tread depth and provides fleet managers with actionable data. Goodyear CheckPoint will be more available to Goodyear national account fleets of all sizes across the United States and Canada thanks to these new lease options. Such fleets can examine the device's use and financing possibilities for their business by engaging with a Goodyear sales associate.

When a Goodyear CheckPoint is installed at a fleet yard's entrance, the in-ground device scans passing trucks and sends out notifications to fleet maintenance staff if there are any imminent tyre issues that need to be addressed, such as low pressure or tread wear. This technology allows for efficient inspection of large numbers of cars and provides a frequently updated snapshot of a fleet's overall tyre programme health.

"Goodyear CheckPoint is designed to help fleets to better maintain their tyres by keeping the pressure at optimal levels, which can extend both casing life and tread wear," said Johnny McIntosh, director, Goodyear Integrated Tyre Solutions. "This can add up to significant cost savings, as improper air pressure causes about 85% of tyre failures, which often result in unanticipated and costly roadside breakdowns."

Goodyear CheckPoint has also demonstrated that it can help fleets save money on labour. In a study comparing the time it takes to conduct tyre inspections using the drive-over-reader device to manual inspections, Goodyear CheckPoint found that the drive-over-reader device saved 90 percent of the time it took to examine fleet tyre depth and pressure.

In North America alone, Goodyear CheckPoint devices have automatically evaluated over 1.5 million tyres and notified fleets of 126,000 potentially costly faults so they may seek maintenance ahead of time.
