Bridgestone To Expand Its Renewable Energy Use At 4 Domestic Plants

Bridgestone Corporation (Bridgestone) stated today that it has transitioned all of its domestic tyre plants in Japan - in Hikone, Tosu, Shimonoseki, and Kitakyushu - to renewable energy sources such as hydro, geothermal, solar, and wind energy.

On June 1, the Hikone Plant became the first to use renewable energy to power its industrial operations. On July 1, 2021, the other three plants made the switch. Bridgestone domestic tyre facilities are expected to reduce annual CO2 emissions by approximately 11 points as a result of the shift in energy source, and total CO2 emission reductions by 2020, including measures completed by 2020, will be around 30% lower than in 2011. The percentage of renewable electricity used in domestic tyre plants will be boosted to around 42%. Through 2030, Bridgestone will continue to cut CO2 emissions by increasing the use of renewable energy, improving tyre production energy efficiency, and constructing new solar power generation systems in all its domestic tyre facilities.

The Sustainability Business Framework was created to help businesses achieve resource circulation, CO2 reduction, a circular economy, and carbon neutrality.

Furthermore, the Group's long-term environmental aim is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, while its Milestone 2030 medium-term environmental goals include a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030 compared to 2011.
