Bridgestone Continues To Support And Empower Adaptive Athletes

Bridgestone announced the start of a new project with its Team Bridgestone athlete ambassadors to further the company's commitment to diversity and inclusive communities. Bridgestone will provide funds and support local activities that benefit adapted sports organisations and empower young adaptive athletes in the United States and Canada through the "Chase Your Dream with Team Bridgestone" initiative.

Bridgestone and the Bridgestone Americas Trust Fund have donated $125,000 to the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), Adaptive Sports Ohio (ASO), and Amputee Blade Runners as part of the initiative (ABR). Individual athlete grants for adaptive sports equipment, training, and competition travel will be funded with these contributions, as well as local community programming that will expand access to sport and keep existing adaptive athletes engaged throughout their journey. In addition, Team Bridgestone athlete ambassadors will participate in events hosted by these organisations to encourage adaptable athletes of all ages and abilities to pursue their goals.

"Bridgestone is committed to working with partners who can help drive awareness and change regarding diversity, equity and inclusion in our communities, and we have seen how sports can create opportunities and networks of support for all individuals," said Paolo Ferrari, president and CEO, Bridgestone Americas. "We’re proud to be a Worldwide Paralympic Partner to help promote inclusivity through sport, and we’re excited to extend this support into our local communities through our ‘Chase Your Dream’ program."

Scout Bassett, a member of Team Bridgestone and a long-time CAF athlete ambassador, competed in the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio. She chose athletics to connect with her peers after losing her right leg as a child. Bassett began her road to becoming a U.S. National Champion, a World Championship medallist, and a celebrity in para track and field when she obtained a grant from CAF for her first running prosthetic at the age of 14.

"The pandemic has increased the need for all of us to have a strong support system and community. This is true for athletes – and even more important for athletes with disabilities who already have so much adversity to overcome," said Bassett. "Bridgestone has been so supportive of my journey and the Challenged Athletes Foundation. I am proud to help them promote the benefits of sport and empower a new generation of adaptive athletes to dream big."

Bridgestone's "Chase Your Dream" campaign continues Bridgestone's support for these three adapted sports groups, which began last year with individual contributions and local activities. As the organisation continues to encourage diversity and enhance access to opportunities for all individuals in its local communities, more specifics will be published in the coming months.
